About This Tour

Semana Santa in Lake Atitlan, join us in Lake Atitlan Guatemala on Good Friday for the most spectacular time of year with the celebration of Semana Santa.  On Good Friday, Santa Catarina Palopó and San Antonio Palopó which are two villages located along the shores of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala host the most beautiful religious celebration for Semana Santa.

Traditional processions are a big focus of Holy Week festivities, which take place on Good Friday and are one of the richest cultural experiences you can enjoy.  This is a passionate sensory experience that mingles Spanish and Mayan traditions and is an event that truly represents the heart and soul of Guatemala.

The streets of Santa Catarina Palopó and San Antonio Palopó, Guatemala turn into a canvas which are adorned with intricate and aromatic carpets (alfombras) of vibrant and beautiful flowers, pines, sawdust, and fruits as giant carved floats (andas) sway on the back of local men and women as small processions wind their way through the town’s streets.

If you have never been to Guatemala during the Easter processions then you are in for an experience of a lifetime.  This multi-sensory experience will immerse you in culture, history, and the majestic beauty of Guatemala as you see, hear, smell, touch, and taste everything Guatemalan.

About Grow Your Own Cure

Grow Your Own Cure believes that well-being is not just about physical health, it is about finding balance in body, spirit, and mind.

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do.” — Mark Twain

To understand the current Guatemalan Easter must go back to the religion of the Maya, in which surprising coincidences that perhaps helped the Catholic religion fit more with the beliefs of Native Americans are. One of these similarities is that indigenous Guatemalans used a palanquin to transport important people as sovereign.
