At a very young age he climbed his first volcano and from then on knew he belonged in the mountains.

Henry enjoys sharing his extensive knowledge and passion of the area’s natural history, and providing guests with a local’s perspective on Mayan culture and history.

Poncho Henry”s brother born and raised in the Highlands of Guatemala in a Tz’utujil village called San Pedro La Laguna.
He grew up with a close connection to nature and respect for everything in it. As Poncho will tell you nature is an inherent part of him, full of thousands of lessons and mysteries to feed one’s curiosity.
Integrating geography, history, and cultural knowledge into his tours he shares his passion and love for spectacular outdoor adventures.
Besides his obvious interests in hiking, boating, and climbing Poncho also guides our medicinal garden and cultural tours that center around the holistic healing properties of indigenous plant medicine.
Poncho’s extensive knowledge as a Lake Atitlan Guide offers travelers an interesting insight into the flora, fauna, and ecosystem of Guatemala coupled with his enthusiasm for the outdoors make every trip he leads an exciting learning experience.
