The Village of Concepcion
Why we include Concepcion in our Lake Atitlan Market Tours is the peaceful, and serene nature of this indigenous village located off the beaten path in the highlands near the municipal capital of Sololá. A unique characteristic of the Concepcion is that 100 percent of its inhabitants are native people. It is also a village that is unaccustomed to seeing tourists.
Concepcion is an amazing spread out farming village with a variety of terraced fields and mountain views as far as the eye can see. The church, built in 1621, boasts intricately carved wood ceiling with cherubs and carved statues in hollowed out niches along the walls.
