The Vásquez Mendoza family lives in San Juan and is a family of extremely talented painters. The patriarch, Antonio Vásquez Yojcóm, taught his wife and children the unique and distinctive style of painting that has made their work highly sought after.
San Juan Lake Atitlan Francisco Vásquez Mendoza, is the only son of Antonio Vásquez Yojcóm and Juana Mendoza Cholotío, and is a powerful painter is his own-right. Francisco builds upon his traditional Tz’utujil culture, infusing his paintings with a vibrant and colorful approach. People from around the world visiting San Juan purchase and prize his work which has been distributed throughout the globe.
Born and raised in San Juan La Laguna, artistic talent has always pumped through Francisco veins. Antonio Vásquez Yojcóm, Francisco’s father, is an extremely talented painter who transferred his gifts onto his son. Early in life, Francisco father and mother noticed his unique artistic talent and encouraged him to develop and explore his artistic vision and abilities. These days, Francisco has distinguished himself among the painters in San Juan. As Francisco’s reputation in the Lake Atitlan region has continued to grow, he has turned his attention and energy to painting full time.
He is currently working out of his family’s painting studio in San Juan La Laguna, the studio is located a short walk from the boat docks. Francisco uses an explosion of colors, textures, and brush strokes as he paints images of traditional Tz’utujil culture including markets, birds, and landscapes that captures and reflects the natural beauty of the area while also passing on vital information and preserving the cultural traditions of the Tz’utujil culture.
