Lake Atitlan Comedor Tipico

Lake Atitlan Comedor Tipico one of our favorite things to do when we travel to a new country is sample the local cuisine.  For us trying the food is one of the great ways to experience a new place and an important part of the travel experience.

A Comedor is in Guatemala how one describes a dining room designates a space or place in which people gather to eat food , whether breakfast, lunch, dinner or snack. There may be one or several dining rooms in a house, building, company, hotel, office or school. Depending on the place, the service and the products offered by the dining room may change name: restaurant or cafeteria, but serves the same purpose. The dining room is an extension of the kitchen and is usually located close to it, in order to serve the diners well, and to carry and bring without difficulty the necessary utensils for food intake: plates, cutlery, tablecloths, Pans with food, jugs, napkins, etc. Sometimes, to take advantage of space, the kitchen and dining room are in one place

To be Tipico is to be of a type, meaning that a person or thing has the same characteristics of everyone or everything else in the group, like a typical student, trying to talk the teacher out of giving homework over break. Something that is typical is what you can expect, like reading a guidebook about a faraway country you will visit to learn the typical weather and kinds of food you will encounter while you are there.

Had we not tried the food in Lake Atitlan Guatemala, we never would have discovered chicken pepian—chicken in spicy pumpkin and sesame sauce, Kak’ik—spiced turkey soup, and churrasco—charcoal-grilled steak.  Most of the tipico meals in Guatemala are served with Mayan staples such as black beans, white rice, and tortillas.
