Internet for Travelers Lake Atitlan Has Wifi, traveling to Lake Atitlan is an adventure and for some a way to disconnect from the world for a while.  For others, they like to share the adventure with their friends and family while it’s happening.

If you are in the latter group and planning a vacation in Guatemala, in particular, Antigua, Lake Atitlan, Coban, or the ruins in Tikal.  I totally understand that you will want to share your incredible journey, stories, and pictures with those back home, after all these locations are among the most culturally diverse, historical, and beautiful in the world.

The abundance of internet cafes and the fact that most of the hotels and hostels offer wifi internet connections for free or at a minimal usage cost does make staying connected easier.

Another option for staying connected is purchasing mobile internet services through a local cell phone company.  Claro offers a mobile USB stick that looks like a memory stick, specifically for this purpose.   Claro’s USB stick can be purchased at any Claro store.

The cost per month is.

The cost for this is approximately Q200 or $16.00USD provides for 3 gigabytes of data and will keep you connected throughout Guatemala.

This is an extremely easy way to stay connected and lasts the typical user three to four weeks.  If you do use up all of the gigabytes all you have to do is go to a Claro store and have the device recharged with more credit.

I have personally used these USB modems on both an Apple Macbook Pro and on a PC and they worked great on both.  Much to my surprise, Guatemala does have good internet coverage even in remote areas such as Lake Atitlan.
