Lake Atitlan Marathon 2016

Lake Atitlan Marathon

Held in the Highlands of Guatemala, along the shores of what has been described by the writer Aldous Huxley as the most beautiful lake in the world, the Lake Atitlan Marathon boasts some of the most impressive landscape.

With panoramic views of Lake Atitlan, a stunning lake that sits in a deep basin surrounded by three majestic volcanoes, participants will get to enjoy stunning vistas overlooking the lake, mountains, and volcanoes as well as navigating the 26.2 miles course which will take them through traditional indigenous villages dotted along the shoreline and into the mountains.

This challenging marathon provides varied terrain featuring gravel asphalt, and cobblestone to keep things interesting and takes runners through grueling elevation gains followed by demanding descents that wear out the quads.

But elevation change isn’t the only thing that makes this course so tough, it’s the rate at which that change happens that makes the difference.  In fact ESPNrun.com has described the Lake Atitlan Marathon as, “”One of the ten best challenge marathons in the world.”

In addition to the Half Marathon and Challenge Marathon held Sunday morning, on Saturday afternoon there are also 5K, 10K and 15K races.

Guatemala is a vast natural playground that invites you to explore.  From 5K, 10K, and 15K race to a half marathon and full marathon, an unforgettable challenge awaits you in Lake Atitlan.
