Witnessing a sunrise and sunset over Lake Atitlan is an awe-inspiring experience and a ‘must do’.  This Lake Atitlan Sunrise Sunset Tour Event begins at 4:30am where you can rise before dawn, witness sunrise, and then take a boat to the opposite side of the lake to the mirador where we watch the sun disappear below the mountainous horizon.

Lake Atitlan Sunrise Sunset Tour Event begins at 4:30am with a challenging and incredible hike up San Pedro Volcano.  San Pedro stands at almost 10,000 feet above sea level.  The hike starts at 5,125 feet above sea level and ascends to 9,908 feet above sea level.  The ascent to the summit takes the average hiker between 3-4 hours and the descent isn’t much different.

At the beginning the trail runs through coffee plantations, cornfields, and other agricultural operations that eventually make way for lush green forests.  If you keep an eye out you may see some tropical birds.  The summit provides panoramic views of the Sierra Madre mountain range, indigenous villages, and Lake Atitlan.  It is such as awesome experience and the views are spectacular.

After the hike you check out of your hotel in San Pedro/San Juan and take a boat across the lake to Panajachel.  There are a couple hours of free time to settle in to your new lodging in Panajachel.  The tour resumes at 4:30pm with a shuttle ride to the mirador where you will be awe-struck by the beautiful colors, landscape and the solemn and majestic presence of three extinct volcanoes— Atitlan, Toliman, and San Pedro.  The sunsets from the mirador are incredible.

In one day you will climb a volcano exploring the mountains, witness a majestic sunrise from the summit of San Pedro Volcano, take a boat across one of the most beautiful lakes in the world and the deepest lake in Central America, learn about Mayan culture, and partake in an incredible sunset.
