Guatemala Travel Touring with the locals Superb

Guatemala Travel Touring with the locals Superb.  Touring Guatemala as we found on our trip from New York to Lake Atitlan was not what we expected. No fancy shuttle vans, guides in uniforms, and hustled around from shop to shop or village to villages was not the case during the 4 days we spent with Kara.

We went to places no tourists were found only locals with huge hearts. Kara has a unique relationship with what she calls her family. Teresa Poncho’s mother cooked us an authentic Mayan Meal in her home on her stove as we all helped.

Teresa has an identical Twin Sister Petrona who also weaves hand made products. Kara helps with selling and exporting products made by Petrona.

We met Nicholas and his wife Dina they own a small leather shop in the village of San Juan La Laguna.

Hoped on a Chicken bus road up to Solola the main city above Lake Atitlan. Took a Pickup to this amazing Highlands village called Concepcion not on the travel guide books. The views I have not idea how to explain wondering this village and meeting the locals.

Guatemala Travel Reviews 2017 One with the locals Superb!

Rode an open public transport under canopy of trees (surreal), dined with a local family (best mole ever), sampled many local cuisines and sweets (best ice pop and fries ever), participated in a tortilla making class, learned alternative herbal remedies with a medicine woman, visited hand weavers that use plant-based dye, met pottery artisans, explored local markets, churches, and remote villages (Concepcion is stunning) and (the highlight) spent time with an 86 year old stone artist whose energy is real and palpable.

Thank you Jim and Kara for a fantastic three-day tour!
