Lake Atitlan Hiking Trails from San Antonio Palopo to Santa Catarina Palopo is one of our most popular hikes in the area and is ideal for travelers eager to combine mind-blowing scenery, wildlife, terraced farming, and an authentic experience.

The hike starts at the summit at an altitude of approximately 6,700 feet above sea level and winds its way down descending through the mountains, alpine forest, wildflower plateaus, terraced fields, and through the village of Santa Catarina Palopo built into the mountain side.  It takes anywhere from two and a half to three hours depending on your fitness level.  The hike is moderately demanding, the four miles remains within the reach of most reasonably fit travelers.

This hike begins at lake level at an altitude of 5,125 feet above sea level.  It steadily gains elevation through deciduous forest and then descending through a narrow ridge spotted with boulders.  It provides incredible views extending out over the lake.

This hike is considered physically demanding because of the nature of this hike, multiple ascends and descends, climbing over boulders and other rock formations, and the length of the hike.  This hike takes approximately five to six hours depending on your fitness level.

This hike begins at lake level at an altitude of 5,125 feet above sea level.  The hike follows the road that winds around the northwest side of Lake Atitlan through a variety of habitats: dense forest, coffee fincas, and along the lakeshore.  There is little elevation gain along this road and this hike is appropriate for all ages and fitness levels.

It takes approximately two and a half hours and it introduces you to the villages of San Marcus La Laguna, San Pablo La Laguna, San Juan La Laguna, and finishes in San Pedro La Laguna.  Not only does it provide for great views of the lake it also gives you a feel for village life.

The truly adventurous can take hiking to the next level and check climbing a volcano off their bucket list.  This is an intense and not for the faint of heart hike.  The hike begins at lake level at an altitude of 5,125 feet above sea level.

The hiking trail climbs elevation, cresting the summit at an elevation of 10,500 feet.  The hike takes you through switchbacks and lots of steps, coffee fincas, terraced cornfields, and cloud forests.  The sunrise from the summit is breathtaking and well worth the effort.  The hike takes approximately three and a half hours to ascend and another two hours to descend.

Solola to Santa Cruz Lake Atitlan Hiking Trails

This hike begins high in the mountains above Panajachel in the village of Solola at an elevation of 6,800 feet above sea level and boasts panoramic views of Lake Atitlan and the three volcanoes that surround it— Volcano Toliman, Volcano San Pedro, and Volcano Atitlan.   This trail is a challenging route with huge elevation gains and drops through steep ravines and rugged terrain.   This is a physically demanding six and a half-mile hike that takes five to six hours.
